Summer in a glass! Crafted from Oregon Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer grapes, the white SEAO2 is not too sweet, not too dry – it is just right. I can pick out scents of fresh peach, grapefruit, pineapple and Gewürztraminer’s classic lychee aroma. So much flavor – lime, lemon, pear, white nectarine and apple with a hint of honeysuckle, and a saline-like minerality on the finish.
It is amazing how good this sparkler is – and so convenient. A blue ice pack, a couple of cans of this wine, and sunset on a mountain – many memorable experiences will be enhanced by a glass of SEAO2.

The wine producing region in and around Philomath, Ore., is gathering acclaim and earning praise, and the work of Matt Compton is a major reason for this. The former viticulturist for nearby Oregon State University has developed into one of the Willamette Valley’s most underrated winemakers, branching out from Spindrift Cellars with his young Compton Family Wines offerings and now this SEA 02 Wines lineup. All are under his Small World Wine Co., facility in McMinnville. This Pinot Noir base with Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc is presented in a dry style, starting with aromas of strawberry-rhubarb pie, spiced plums and cherry blossom. It’s a delicious and lively drink that a well-developed mousse that fills the mouth with cherries and cream, backed by a sense of toastiness and a finish of red currant and blood orange pith. The label design is by Eugene-based illustrator Neal Williams, and a portion of SEA 02 proceeds are given to OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute.

Made from the finest Willamette Valley grapes, the initial offering from SEA O2 is the 2017 Sparkling Rosé. This “Pinot Blend” that includes Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc is crisp and dry in style. Pinot Noir lends a spicy structure, while Pinot Meunier brings floral freshness and lift. Red pear, pomegranate, and fig are woven with creamy texture and dynamic length.
